Cheap Flights from Abuja to London: When to Book and Which Routes Save Money

By Udochukwu · Promo Radar NG · 19 October 2026

Lagos gets most of the attention, but plenty of travellers to the UK start their journey at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Fewer flights leave Abuja than Lagos, so prices can be higher and seats sell out faster. With the right timing and routes, you can still cut the cost.

1. Know your options from Abuja

Abuja has had direct flights to London Heathrow, mainly with British Airways, taking around six and a half hours. Schedules change by season, so always check what's operating for your dates.

Connecting flights give you more choice and are often cheaper. Common routes go through:

Check transit rules: Some connecting countries require a transit visa for Nigerian passport holders, even if you don't leave the airport. Confirm with the airline before you pay.

2. Compare Abuja with Lagos

Because Lagos has more flights and more competition, fares from Lagos are sometimes much lower. If you live in Abuja, compare:

If you go the Lagos route, book the domestic flight with plenty of time to spare. Domestic delays are common, and missing your international flight can cost far more than you saved. Moving between the domestic and international terminals in Lagos also takes time.

3. The cheapest months

PeriodPrice level
Mid-January to MarchUsually lowest
April to JuneModerate, with Easter spikes
July to AugustHigh (UK school holidays)
September to OctoberModerate to good
Late November to early JanuaryHighest

4. Book at the right time

Start watching fares two to three months ahead for normal travel. For Christmas and New Year, start looking by mid-year. With fewer seats from Abuja, the cheapest fares go quickly, so waiting for a last-minute deal rarely works.

5. Count the full price

6. Use price alerts and flexible dates

Set a price alert for Abuja (ABV) to London on a few booking sites and use the month view to spot cheaper days. Midweek departures are often cheaper than Fridays and Sundays.
