How to spot a real discount
A "70% off" banner means little if the old price was never real. Here is how to check before you buy.
1. Look at the old price
Shops sometimes raise the "original" price just before a sale, so the discount looks bigger than it is. Ask yourself whether the item sold at the old price recently. If you can't tell, look at the same product on other shops or in the shop's own listing history.
2. Compare the same product across shops
Search for the exact model name and size, not just the brand. A 128GB phone and a 256GB phone of the same model can be listed side by side, and they cost different amounts. Check that you are comparing the same item.
3. Check the total, not just the price
- Delivery fees can cancel out a small saving.
- Some sites add fees at checkout, so look at the final total before you pay.
- Check whether the price needs a promo code, and whether the code is still valid.
4. Check stock and seller
A deal on something out of stock is not a deal. Also check who sells the item. Items sold directly by the shop are usually easier to return than items sold by third-party sellers.
5. Save proof
Take a screenshot of the price and the old price before you pay. If the price changes or the item is not delivered at the price shown, you have something to show the shop.
6. Be careful with very large discounts
A discount of 70% or more on a popular item deserves a second look. Check the reviews and the seller, and make sure the product is genuine.
Go to the deal list. Every deal opens the shop's own website, so check the final price before you pay.
